As Singapore celebrates its 21st annual World Gourmet Summit (WGS), the region's most talked about premier food and wine event catapulting Singapore to the forefront as a dynamic international culinary hotspot, the industry's best gathered together in hope of receiving one of the thirty Awards of Excellence (AOE) 2017, one of the most respected accolades in Singapore and around the region.
The Awards of Excellence creates opportunities for Singapore's rising and established culinary talents to receive greater exposure and growth," said the AOE representative.
As the top chefs and restaurateurs in South East Asia gathered for the results, last month, specifically on March 27th, it was no surprise to see only the best in the region nominated for the "Best Asian Restaurant of the Year" regional award: Bo Innovation (3 Michelin star, Hong Kong), Gaggan (No. 1 San Pellegrino Best Restaurant in Asia, Bangkok), Nahm (No. 5 San Pellegrino Best Restaurant in Asia, Bangkok), Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin (1 Michelin star, Bangkok), The Chairman (Hong Kong) and Mozaic (Bali, Indonesia).
But the surprise came to everyone when Mozaic Restaurant Gastronomique won. Chef-owner Chris Salans who was there to represent Mozaic received the award trophy award with great honour.
"It gives me such pleasure to see that Indonesia, and more specifically Bali, is recognised as one of the best dining destinations in Asia. Over the past twenty years that I have been in Bali and sixteen years that Mozaic restaurant has been opened, Bali has really marked itself as a top culinary destination. I am proud to be part of the movement," says Chris Salans.
