On April 3, the World Gourmet Summit Awards of Excellence (AOE) 2018 honoured 31 outstanding professionals and establishments from the food and beverages industry, as well as the hospitality industry. From the four regional awards, there were six candidates from Indonesia, and two of them were awarded with the Awards of Excellence: Chef Chris Salan of Mozaic Restaurant as Best Restaurant of the Year, and Chef Ragil Imam Wibowo of Nusa Indonesia Gastronomy.

This marks Chef Chris Salan’s third time on receving such awards, and also the first time that Indonesia scored more than one candidate as finalists. In addition, Chef Salan is also the first chef in Indonesia have established an independent fine dining restaurant in 2001, which was the Mozaic restaurant in Ubud, Bali. Due to his accomplishments, he is a pionner to many of his peers, and has also put Bali as one of the world’s top culinary destinations.

“I am proud to see that more and more restaurants and chefs in Indonesia are making it into the finals of such prestigious regional awards,” said Chef Salan. “It really shows that Indonesia is raising in the ranks of the culinary discipline.” He hopes that this becomes a great sign for Indonesia that will entice more Indonesian chefs to go into the field of fine dining to showcase Indonesian cuisine or ingredients.
