Having a friend coming over, a family gathering, or just to treating yourself with homemade comfort food? We have the solution! A homemade Szechuan Spicy Wonton that tastes the same as your grandma’s cooking. Now you can make it on your own!

Making this particular dish may seem like a hard thing to do. We often meet this kind of dish only in Chinese restaurants, in supermarkets at frozen food section, or, of course, thanks to grandma’s cooking. But with these easy and simple steps, we can assure you that your cooking will taste as good as the any you’ve eaten before.  Home Made Grandma Szechuan Spicy Wonton

Ingredients:

  • 100g minced chicken
  • 180g watercress
  • 180g lettuce
  • 2ml Chinese cooking wine
  • 3ml soy sauce
  • 3g sesame oil
  • 3g salt
  • 3g sugar
  • 1g chicken powder
  • Pepper
  • 20 pcs dumpling skins

Wonton Sauce Part A:

  • 8 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 2½ tbsp Zhejiang black vinegar
  • 4 tbsp cold water
  • 2 tbsp sugar

Wonton Sauce Part B:

  • ½ tbsp sesame oil
  • ½ tbsp sesame paste
  • 1/3 tsp grated garlic
  • Chili oil
  • Ground peanuts
  • Chopped coriander
  • Ground Szechuan pepper

Wonton Sauce Part C:

  • Chopped coriander
  • Ground toasted peanuts

Method:

  1. Prepare the minced meat and season with the ginger, chopped green onions, soy sauce, a pinch of salt, Chinese cooking wine, pepper, sugar, and sesame oil. Let it sit for 10-20 minutes.
  2. Soft-boil the cleaned vegetables, then chop.
  3. Mix the minced chicken with the chopped vegetables and mix well. Add an egg if needed, and add the rest of salt and sesame oil. Mix well.
  4. Place the filling in the centre of a dumpling skin and fold.
  5. Boil the dumpling until cooked.
  6. For the sauce, mix well wonton sauce parts A and B, and after that garnish with part C. Serve with the dumplings.
