Fancy chunks of crispy fried chicken coated with sweet and tangy sticky orange sauce? Of course you do, but don’t forget to serve it with warm, steaming rice! As one of the most popular dishes in Asia, we can easily spot Orange Chicken on many Chinese restaurant menus. But did you know a fun fact? Orange Chicken rarely makes an appearance in truly authentic Chinese restaurant, but the is dish commonly found in North American Chinese restaurants.

Recently, Chef Yvonne Yuen shared with us a simple yet mouthwatering China Town Orange Chicken recipe. With a mix of Eastern and Western seasoning, Chef Yvonne truly makes the so-called Chinese dish as in Western countries. Read on to learn how to make the dish on your own!


 China Town Orange Chicken

Ingredients:

  • 400 gr Chicken Fillet
  • 3 pcs Sweet Orange
  • Corn Starch

Seasoning:

  • 1 cup of Orange Juice
  • 1 tbsp White Vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Honey
  • ¼ tsp Salt
  • ½ tsp Dark Soy Sauce
  • 3 pcs Shallot
  • 1 tsp Minced Garlic
  • ½ tsp Minced Ginger
  • 1 tbsp Corn Starch
  • 2 tbsp Barbeque Sauce
  • 2 tsp Sukiyaki Sauce
  • 2 tsp Marmalade Orange

Marinate:

  • 1/3 tsp Salt
  • 1/3 tsp Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Light Soy Sauce
  • 2 tbsp Egg
  • 1 tsp Corn Starch

Method:

  1. Cut chicken for 2 cm, rinse and wipe dry. Add marinate mix and mix well. Leave for 15 minutes.
  2. Juice the orange, grated fresh orange peel, set aside.
  3. Put the corn starch on the chicken, deep fry them in hot oil until done. Drain the oil.
  4. Bring the seasoning to the boil, put the chicken and mix well, serve.
